A "Year of Art" in Longmont designated by Mayor Coombs and the Longmont City Council

On January, 24, Mayor Dennis Coombs and the Longmont City Council proclaimed 2012 as a "Year of Art" in Longmont. Art Builds Community and it is the intention for the “Year of Art” to build community awareness and increase participation in the arts and culture available throughout the city.

Art Partners who are participating this year with the Longmont Council for the Arts: Longmont Downtown Development Authority, Longmont Area Visitors Association, Longmont Museum & Cultural Center, Longmont Symphony Orchestra, Longmont Youth Symphony, Art in Public Places, ArtWalk Longmont, Boulder County Arts Alliance, Firehouse Art Center, Longmont Artist Guild, Longmont All Star Jazz Band, Mojo’s Music Academy, Longmont Chorale, Longmont Theatre Company, Jesters Dinner Theatre, California Actors Theatre, Airborne Dance, Bogdonava Dance Company, Dance Dimensions, Longmont Dance Theatre, Crackpots, Fifth Ave Studio “the piano lesson place,” Larry’s Guitar, The Great Frame-Up, Rabid Rabits Galeria, Bead Lounge, Dickens Opera House, Front Range Community College (FRCC), St. Vrain Valley School District (SVVSD) including Sunset Middle School and Skyline High School, and many other independent galleries and artists who are all a part of the heart of the vibrant artistic, creative community.

The community call to action is to enjoy the local art scene to keep the arts alive and well in Longmont.The Art Partners will keep track of participation and if annual attendance exceeds 86,270, the current population of the city, each person registered by the end of the year on the LDDA website at downtownlongmont.com will receive a free ticket to an art event in 2013. You will be able to register on the new LDDA website which will be launching on Friday, February 10. Until then, please email your name, mailing address and e-mail address to ldda@longmontcolorado.gov and we will add you to the list.

A Year of Art Facebook page has also been created which will post events, activities and news of what is happening in the arts community. We encourage everyone to Like the page and share it with their own circle of friends to spread the word and make it an awesome “Year of Art” in Longmont.
