Downtown #Strongmont Businesses of the Day - Happy Earth Day!
Happy Earth Day from Downtown Longmont!
Today is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, so we’d like to take a moment to recognize that many of our Downtown #Strongmont businesses have taken progressive actions to become more sustainable.
Longmont Sustainability
Longmont City Council has repeatedly emphasized the importance of action on climate change and sustainability, from adopting the Longmont Sustainability Plan in 2016 to declaring a Climate Emergency in 2019. The City’s Public Works & Natural Resources division includes a Sustainability department that recently created a Sustainable Business Program (SBP) to certify and recognize Longmont businesses who have made a commitment to sustainable business practices. Certifications began in 2019, and many of the first businesses to be certified are located in Downtown. Congratulations and thank you for being leaders of sustainability!

Q & A with Peter D'Antonio, PCD Engineering - Silver Standard Winner
Q: What does sustainability mean to you as a business owner?
A: As a company that assists businesses in designing, operating and maintaining efficient, high-performance buildings, sustainability is about helping our partners achieve long-term success. It’s about targeting purposeful profit that addresses head-on the environmental challenges of our communities and the world at-large. Sustainability means living our values at PCD Engineering. It’s seizing the opportunity to lead by example.
Q: What has been your biggest environmental impact in operating more sustainably?
A: Aside from the impact helping our clients implement energy-efficient solutions for their businesses, our biggest environmental impact within our business operations has been our focus on renewable energy. This includes installing electrical vehicle charging stations and photovoltaic power systems to power our operations.
Q: What feedback do you have about the City's Sustainability Program?
A: It’s been a wonderful experience working with the City’s sustainability program. The staff has been great to work with and the program has given our staff freedom to be creative on important work outside the day to day job. We look forward to the next steps and continuing our partnership to higher levels of sustainability.
Downtown businesses are the heart of #Strongmont. Help support them now during COVID-19 and beyond, so that they remain sustainable contributors to our community. You can do so now by participating in our LOCAL campaign!
