Festival On Main
Friday, August 22, 2014
6 – 10 p.m.
Main Street, Longmont, CO (between 3rd and 8th Ave.)

The Longmont Downtown Development Authority (LDDA) proudly announces the fourteenth annual Festival on Main celebration to be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 from 6 - 10 p.m. on Main Street, Longmont CO. This year’s celebration offers more activities, music, arts and a beer garden.

Three simultaneous stages for musical enjoyment:

Festival on Main features three music stages to engage the entire community. The 4th Avenue stage at Main St., sponsored by Flatirons Bank, is headlined by Paula Nelson from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Paula Nelson was born into a family of music. Her torchy and powerful voice is inspired by bluesy and supple voice styles like Rita Coolidge (www.paulanelsonband.com). Also at the 4th Avenue Stage will be Gipsy Moon whose sound is referred to as Gipsygrass, where backwoods hoedown meets New York jazz club. (www.gipsymoon.net). They will be performing from 6-7:15 p.m.  The 4th Avenue Stage features a Beer Garden sponsored by Left Hand, Oskar Blues, Pumphouse, and 300 Suns Breweries.

Family Friendly entertainment brings a groove to the Main Street stage, sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, on the corner of 5th Avenue and Main Street. It will feature Boogie Machine from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Boogie Machine will pack the street with their 70s music show that’ll inspire all ages to get up and dance! (boogiemachine.com) Also on this stage will be Thunk who will get the crowd moving with their blend of hard driving tunes and feel-good songs. They will kick off the evening from 6-7:15 p.m. (www.thunkmusic.com)

Three Latin performances will take place on our Latin Music Stage from 6 - 10 p.m., sponsored by LaLey Radio. The Latin stage, located near 3rd Avenue on the 300 block of Main St., will feature Sol Naciente de Tierra Caliente (8:20-9:20 p.m.), La Nueva Lealtad (7 – 8 p.m.), and Brillantes Del Norte (6 – 6:40 p.m.)

Interactive fun:

Along with music, Festival on Main 2014 features fun! For a $5 ticket, enjoy a bungee trampoline plus free attractions including a climbing wall, obstacle course, bounce house, inflatable slide, and more! Kids of all ages will enjoy a bubble tower, kids area, street performers, Longmont Idol competition and face painters. More than 80 booths feature Downtown merchants and area non-profits, each with a fun, interactive activity.

Dance and arts abound:

This year, artists and creatives have owned the Downtown Longmont Creative District. For the third year, a partnership with the Longmont Area Economic Council (LAEC) will add to the Downtown environment – this time with Lending Libraries. To honor Industry Appreciation Week, a competition of three primary employers, Vapor Technologies, Xilinx and Oscar Blues will be held for the Little Library Designs. Companies worked with artists Richard and Paula Fagre to creatively construct the libraries. During Festival on Main between 6 – 8 p.m., the community can vote on its favorite library. The booth is located in the 500 block of Main Street. The LAEC will donate $750 to the charity of the winning company’s choice. Winners will be announced on the Main Stage at 8:15 p.m. by Mayor Coombs.

Three stages will showcase dance this year. Don’t miss Dance Dimensions showcase on the corner of Main & Longs Peak. Come see these champion dancers showcase their talents in all forms of dance. Square Dancers, Ariel Dancers and Fire Dancers will delight crowds at the corner of 6th & Main Street. New this year, International Dance will be featured at the corner of Longs Peak and Coffman.

To celebrate the new art studios inside Roosevelt Park Apartments, Main Street, north of Longs Peak, will become an artist showcase. Nearly ten artists will be on-hand to display – and even create – artwork. Be sure to visit downtown galleries during festival, including Rabid Rabits, Muse Gallery, aHa Gallery, Kay Carol and Pricilla Studio and Firehouse Art Center!

A convenient handicap only parking area will also be available at the 6th Ave. and Coffman St. public parking lot.

Main Street will be closed to traffic from Third to 8th Avenue to accommodate the bustling extravaganza. For all traffic restrictions, visit www.downtownlongmont.com.
