“The stories we tell” is very special kind of singer songwriter event. It not only features original, regional and national performing songwriters but also is formatted for a listening room environment, much like going to the theatre, this kind of show is attentive and hush quiet so the audience can connect deeply with the stories and songs by the performer.
“The stories we tell” adds a fresh element to the singer songwriter show by requesting the performers share a complete Story Arc. Like chapters in a book, the audience will go on a personal or fictional journey with the songwriter as they share songs of connected threads that take you on a journey from first chord to last note.
Hosted by story arc songwriter Angel Corsi, the event features new artists every event and Friday – April 12th – will feature Pamela Machala: Singer, songwriter, and pianist Pamela Machala (“MOCK-uh-luh”) writes “pop music for deeper listening” (BolderBeat) with influences ranging from jazz and soul to musical theater and folk. Signatures of Pamela’s songwriting include sprightly hooks, subtly complex chord changes, feelgood funky grooves, boldly vulnerable lyrics, and a distinctive blend of melancholy, hope, and goofiness. Her genre-blending sound is both modern and reminiscent of 70’s favorites like Carole King and James Taylor.
Also, on the lineup is Micki Balder: Denver-based singer songwriter Micki Balder explains your feelings and experiences using the words you couldn’t find. With tender vocals and subtle fingerpicking reminiscent of First Aid Kid and the Weepies, she tells musical tales of bittersweet stories, budding love, and heartbreak, bringing her listeners together to participate joyfully in the sorrows of the world.
“The stories we tell” is part of the Friday Folk intiative at Longmont Public Media that will highlight the art of songwriting. The Event is $10 (will be split between LPM efforts and directly to the artist performing).
