Railroad engineer Buster Keaton is rejected by the Confederate Army and his sweetheart, Annabelle. But when spies kidnap both Annabelle and The General (his beloved train engine), it sets in motion cinema’s most perfectly structured comic epic. Based loosely on an actual Civil War episode and filmed on old narrow-gauge steam trains, this movie has long been considered one of the best of all time.
