February 8th, 2024 features: Clay Rose (of Gasoline Lollipops) and Eben Grace (of The 89s)
Clay Rose https://gasolinelollipops.com/
Clay Rose is the lead singer and songwriter for Boulder-based bands, Gasoline Lollipops, and The Widow’s Bane. Although his career as a band leader has spanned a decade, his solo songwriting career began in 1997. He has written and released 10 all-original albums to date. Clay Rose’s ability to tell stories that seamlessly cross genres from folk, to punk, to klezmer, to country has won him an array of awards. These include: 105.5 The Colorado Sound’s Best Local Band award for 2021 and 2022, Best Country Band Award, by Westword Magazine 2015 and 2018, as well as Colorado Daily’s Best Local Band award for 2015, 2016, and 2017.
In 2020 Rose released Gasoline Lollipops’ 6th album, All The Misery Money Can Buy, at Red Rocks Amphitheatre to national critical acclaim. In 2018 Rose was commissioned by Wonderbound Ballet Company in Denver to write a full-length ballet using all original music written for his other band, The Widow’s Bane. The following year Wonderbound commissioned a 2nd full-length ballet set to the music of Gasoline Lollipops entitled, The Sandman. Wonderbound will be opening their 2023 season with a reprise of The Sandman. Rose is currently wrapping up a new Gasoline Lollipops LP, entitled, Nightmares, to be released in the fall of 2022. Rose is also working with acclaimed Colorado play write, Doug Vincent, to revise and recreate his award-winning one-man play, Grace, which they will be touring coast to coast in the late fall. The play strongly features Clay’s solo music. In addition to all of this, Rose is also in preproduction of his first full-length solo album to be recorded with Octave Records in Boulder, Colorado in the next year.
Eben Grace https://the89s.com/index.html
Eben Grace is a guitar obsessed singer-songwriter, producer and
collaborator. He began playing before his bones fully hardened, sneaking
his sister's guitar out of her room to bash along to his dad’s copy of
Sticky Fingers. His professional musical career started early, cutting
his teeth in bars by night while earning a formal music degree by day.
The ensuing years have seen him develop a deep and empathetic musical
skill set put to use as a trusted touring sideman, studio ace and
producer. Lately, Eben has settled into a prolific period as a
singer-songwriter, performing solo and with his band the 89s. A tiny
taste of his influences includes Lucinda Williams, Elvis Costello,
Kathleen Edwards, Dan Bern and Chis Whitley. Eben lives in Lyons CO, the
little town with the big music scene.
Hosted by: Monica Marie LaBonte monicamariemusic.com
From a wide-eyed tike delicately pressing the keys of her mother’s upright piano to a seasoned artist taking various stages across the country, Monica Marie LaBonte has always been guided by song. In her over 10-year career, the Colorado native has played hundreds of venues, including the historic Gold Hill Inn and Planet Bluegrass. For five years, she carried the torch of Women in Song at the Laughing Goat and enjoyed booking, playing alongside and meeting artists from all over the country. Monica is thrilled to be the Creative Director and host of Mixtape. She believes in the power of community and music and cannot wait to see what magic happens when musicians share stories and songs on stage together at the Times Collaborative.
