You, the members of Firehouse, are invited to an evening of relaxing creative playtime as we practice the tactile methods of experimental cinema. In other words, you're invited to color on 16mm film using the supplies that Allison will provide. As you are coloring and painting, your host, Allison, will document the experience on Super 8 film. At the end of the night, Allison will get all of the footage digitized and edit it together so that you can see the fruits of your artistic play come together into a finished short film.

We'll begin the night with a brief screening of a few short films by Stan Brakhage, one of most important names in experimental cinema who also happened to call Boulder, Colorado his home for much of his career. After this inspiration, Allison will give you a quick tutorial in basic practices for painting on and distorting your film. Then, you can spend the rest of the evening going bonkers on your section of film.
