Details

Light of Christ Ecumenical Catholic Community is planning an alternative way to walk the stations of the cross on Good Friday by retracing the locations in Longmont where the Ku Klux Klan congregated, planned acts of terror, and practiced exclusion. At the sites, the participants hope to bring understanding, forgiveness, and healing.

People of all or no faiths are invited to join the Silent Walk To End Hate and Exclusion as a public witness against the growing culture of intolerance that is pervasive in many parts of our country. The Walk will start at Roosevelt Park, the site of many Klan rallies and parades, and will stop at six sites along Main Street and Third Avenue before it concludes at Martin Street, a distance of about 1.3 miles. At each stop, the historical significance of the site will be noted. The Walk will also offer an alternate interpretation of the passion of Jesus and will invite participants to pray and reflect along the way. The Walk is specifically planned to draw attention to and commemorate the death of Jesus on the cross.

To meet up for the walk, gather near the rec center parking lot. For questions, contact churchoffice@lightofchristecc.org or call 303-772-3785.
