MAIN GALLERY:
"EMERGENCY BLANKETS: SHELBY SHADWELL"
JULY 28, 2023-SEPTEMBER 3, 2023
EXHIBIT RECEPTION AND DEMO: AUG 12, 2023 [6-8 PM]

Creating on surfaces that can reach sizes of more than six and a half square feet, Shadwell depicts space blankets used for warmth in emergency situations. In “Emergency Blankets”, Shadwell juxtaposes monochromatic rendering with meticulous hyper-realism, turning precise observation of these highly reflective images into abstractions.

The glistening surfaces and intersecting planes, created by dense layers of charcoal and pastel, call upon pareidolia, a recurring theme in Shadwell’s work. Pareidolia is the perception of recognizable form in a random conglomeration or formation of things.

SOUTH GALLERY: RESIDENT ARTIST
MAKENZIE DAVIS
The Firehouse Art Center hosts two residencies each year, working in the South Gallery before a culminating solo exhibition in the Main Gallery. The Artist Occupied program at the Firehouse Art Center is intended as a professional development opportunity for emerging and experienced visual artists.Bring you work to a new creative level as you connect visitors to working artist environments and processes.

Makenzie Davis is a multimedia artist who creates two and three dimensional work from a reciprocal painting and papermaking process that directly engages the landscape in which it is made. Her practice includes painting large scale abstracted components of the landscape in which she resides, layering her recycled handmade paper with organic elements over the compositions as a way to draw attention to aspects of the land and culture that have been built upon, layered over, forgotten, or rediscovered.

AUGUST 12- PAPER MAKING WORKSHOP- DROP IN DURING SUMMER ON THE STREETS FROM 4PM-8PM

STUDIO 64: HANNAH PAINTER
Born in southern California, raised in Longmont Colorado. I still currently reside on the Front Range in Longmont inspired by the graffiti ruins, the future of fashion, art, science, and my internal emotional rhythm. A lover of community, individually, and the unknown.

I want to bring something different to the table that addresses the bigger issues. Depression, various illnesses, injustice, and empowerment is what I strive to incorporate into my works. Life is hard and beautiful, each human experience is different and unique, so let’s express it through emotion, art and conversation.
