In 1870, a group of railroad investors from Chicago sold shares in a community in northern Colorado’s St. Vrain Valley. The next year, they chartered the town of Longmont, named for Longs Peak directly to the west, as the Chicago-Colorado Colony.
Today, classic buildings in the Downtown Longmont District house nearly 300 businesses and organizations on gracious, tree-lined streets. Thousands of people visit Downtown for parades, art events and festivals for the whole family. From lunchtime to special events, Downtown Longmont brings the community together.
