Who Needs a Brush to Paint?

Abstract/non-representional painter Ron Gallegos has done it again. With a new series of non-objectives works he shows how far one can go in being creative…in this case it’s painting without a brush.

When one thinks of painting it is usually the old-fashion kind i.e. paint applied to a brush then to a board or canvas. In this case Gallegos goes outside the norm by appling the paint directly to the canvas—be it accomplished by literally pouring it on to the surface. Background is in pure white—untouched canvas. This provides a rather stark contrast to the bold colors of the poured paint. The paint is applied in a most generous fashion-meaning very thick in terms of depth. The impression is the painting is almost three-dimensional; it appears to have depth off the canvas.

The non-objective works appear to rather organic in nature. The have almost the look of something seen under a high-powered microscope. Because they are non-representational, one can almost thing any thing they want..and many have.
